What Is A Nofollow Backlink?

A nofollow link is a link that contains a rel=”nofollow” attribute in its HTML code. This attribute tells search engines not to pass authority from the linking page to the destination page. As such, noffollow links have very little value from the SEO point of view.

The nofollow attribute was introduced in 2005 by Google, Yahoo and MSN in order to fight the comment spam by giving webmasters the option to devalue certain links.

Nofollow vs. dofollow

From the technical point of view, the only difference between a nofollow link and a standard “dofollow” link is the presence of the rel=”nofollow” tag. The practical difference is that nofollow links do not pass the link equity (also known as “link juice”). In other words, if you get a nofollow backlink, the linking page doesn’t pass the authority to your page. It won’t improve your rankings and transfer any PageRank.

When should I use nofollow links?

1. Pages you don’t want to endorse

Sometimes you simply need to link to websites that you don’t want to endorse.

For example, here’s an article by the Variety Magazine reporting on Pornhub releasing a non-adult film. Although all the links in that article are followed, they decided to use a nofollow attribute when linking to PornHub’s annual review.

2. Sponsored links

Buying links is an activity that is strictly prohibited by Google’s guidelines.

So you don’t want to be caught by Google on the receiving end of the link, but neither should you be obviously selling links on your website.

The only way is to use a nofollow attribute on all the sponsored links, more precisely rel=”sponsored” (rel=”nofollow” will work the same way, or you can combine both values like rel=”sponsored nofollow”).

3. Affiliate links

This is very similar to the previous point. Although affiliate links are not “sponsored links” per se, it is best practice to nofollow them.

4. User-generated content

Any time a visitor is able to insert a link on your website (in most cases it’s the comments or forum posts) it should be automatically nofollowed.

Do nofollow links have any SEO value?

There’s always been a lively debate about the possible impact of nofollow links on rankings.

Has a nofollow link from a relevant Forbes article really the same SEO value as a nofollow link from a spammy comment on a random website?

We don’t know. But even if nofollow links pass no link equity at all, there are other indirect benefits they bring.

1) They may serve as a hint for Google

What does it mean?

Well, nobody knows exactly. One of the possible interpretations is that Google may decide to “ignore” the nofollow attribute in some cases. It may be for the ranking purposes or just for crawling and indexing.

But more probably, they’ll just use them internally to help them improve their understanding of links and the content of the linked pages. After all, their official statement is that these hints will be used as “a way to better understand how to appropriately analyze and use links”.

2) They can bring you traffic

Remember the example with a nofollow link from a relevant Forbes article and a nofollow link from a spammy comment?

Even if there was no difference from the “PageRank” point of view, there’s definitely a difference in the traffic potential these two links have.

Even if there’s no SEO benefit, a well-placed nofollow link from a relevant website with many visitors can bring you a lot of valuable traffic. And SEO is all about getting more traffic.

3) They diversify your link profile

A natural link profile will always consist of both dofollow and nofollow backlinks. Having only dofollow links or too many dofollow links can look unnatural.

It doesn’t mean you must actively look for nofollow backlinks or stress about the dofollow/nofollow ratio (unless you actively build links at scale). There’s no ideal number and never was.

How to find out whether the link is nofollow?

There are various ways to do check whether a link is nofollow or follow:

  1. Check the HTML code
  2. Us an extension
  3. Use backlink analysis tools

From the SEO point of view, it’s always better to get dofollow links from authoritative websites.

There’s always the option to contact the webmaster and ask whether he could remove the nofollow attribute, especially if there’s no obvious reason to use it.

Using DoFollow Backlinks For Your Business

When it comes to search engine optimization (SEO), there are some common terms for particular practices that any business should know about. Dofollow backlinks are one of these words that is imperative in the book of SEO. If you’re not totally clear about what dofollow backlinks are, however, don’t worry–we’ve got your back. Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about this all-important link building process.

What Are Dofollow Backlinks?

There are two major types of backlinks that differentiate in their ability to pass on link juice. These types of backlinks are the dofollow backlinks and the no-follow backlinks. As far as dofollow backlinks go, link builders will create this type of backlink for SEO purposes. Let’s take a closer look…

How Dofollow Backlinks Work

Dofollow backlinks allow Google, or whatever search engine is being used, to follow them and reach your website. Basically, these are links that will pass on the SEO benefits of the website where it is built from to the hyperlinked website. Dofollow backlinks created from high PR and high Domain Authority sources will pass on the link juices towards a hyperlinked blog. This will improve its ranking position significantly in search engines. This means that when doing SEO, it’s important to concentrate your link building activities on sources that allow you to build these kinds of links. Dofollow backlinks will remarkably enhance a business’s link profile and improve their page rank–what more could you ask for?

Where To Build Dofollow Backlinks

Before jumping in the how-to of dofollow backlinks, let’s take a look at where to build these links. Of course, there are plenty of places you can find online if you want to build dofollow backlinks for offsite optimization purposes. However, it’s important to diversify your link sources if you want to achieve the best results. You can build links in places such as article directories, web 2.0 properties, forums, and high PR blogs, just to name a few. Like the experts, you’ll want to concentrate on building your links in those places mentioned (article directories, web 2.0 properties, forums, high PR blogs). However, do not concentrate only in one of these sources. Instead, diversify your placement. For example, don’t simply stick to building links in article directories. Even if you create several backlinks in different article sites, you must also expand to other communities, such as forums or blogs.

How To Use Dofollow Backlinks

How To Get Dofollow Backlinks With Blog Commenting

What you probably already know is that blog commenting is a useful relationship building tool. What you might not be aware of is that it’s also an awesome link building method.

Here’s how it’s done.

1. Build The Foundation

This first step is highly important–begin with keywords or key phrases. You can write the best content and have the highest PR dofollow backlinks pointing to it…but if no one ever searches, your content will still remain undiscovered. Keywords are the only key to discovering your content, so don’t ignore them!

2. Create Backlinks To Specific Blog Posts

Next, you’ll want to create dofollow backlinks to specific blog posts by commenting on other blogs. This blog commenting system helps its users get dofollow backlinks and rank in Google. It works by automatically pulling 15 articles from your blog when you are dropping a comment on a CommentLuv enabled blog, if you have the premium version of the plugin. (The 15 articles it pulls will be your most recent 10 in addition to 5 favorite articles). This will help you chose which article on your blog you want to link back to.

3. Keep Comments Genuine

Beware! Bloggers can figure out if you are simply dropping comments for the sake of dofollow backlinks. These comments will most likely end up trashed. So, if you value the backlink, you must also add value to the post by dropping a genuine comment. This means the more time you put into reading the articles and dropping reasonable comments, the more dofollow backlinks you’re likely to get.

How To Get Dofollow Backlinks From Article Directories & Web 2.0 Properties

The article directory is one of the easiest ways to build dofollow backlinks. There is a wide variety of directories to choose from, however, you will want to make sure you are picking the right ones. Since some directories have set the outbound links to no-follow, not all article directories are dofollow links. Therefore, in order to conserve your time and effort, you’ll want to avoid these directories altogether.

How To Get Dofollow Backlinks From Forums

Forums are another great option for a place to start building backlinks. However, like article directories, not all forums are dofollow links.

How To Get Dofollow Backlinks From High PR Blogs

1. Get The Link To Your Home Page

This will boost your ranking big time. Start by going to storify.com and creating a free account if you don’t already have one.

2. Write Your Article

Begin by writing an article that’s at least 500 words long. Then, use your keywords properly. You’ll want to try to make the article as SEO friendly as possible (this includes the story URL as well). Lastly, drag and drop social media objects to make the article more outstanding.

3. Get Your Dofollow Backlinks!

This last step is as easy as 1, 2, 3. Follow the steps below to create a link that will be dowfollow from a PR8 domain.

  1. Click the Embed URL tool
  2. Enter the URL of your home page.
  3. Once the preview appears, drag and drop in your article or story.

After reading this article, surely you’re convinced that the time to start creating dofollow backlinks is now.

About Social Bookmarks

Social bookmarks is the process of tagging a website page with a browser-based tool so that you can easily visit it again later. Instead of saving social media posts to your browser bookmarks, you can use different platforms’ features to bookmark posts. Because the bookmarks are online, you’ll be able to access them anywhere, from any device with an internet connection.

Social bookmarking sites began as simple resources for social media and content marketers. Today, they’re diverse and dynamic online communities, where users discuss links and develop groups based on shared relevancy.

How does social bookmarking work?

In social bookmarks sites, discussion topics are organized into specific rooms or threads where users follow content that’s interesting to them. When following a piece of content, you’ll receive notifications to your personal feed when new information appears.

Links in social bookmarks sites are the starting point for discussion and knowledge-sharing. This makes social sites an excellent location for finding social media inspiration, earning backlinks and networking with potential influencers.

Some popular social networking tools include:

  • Pinterest
  • Reddit
  • Digg

Why use social bookmarks?

With social bookmarks, companies and social media marketing managers can find and save valuable content to add to their publishing schedule. This is an excellent way to simplify content curation and speed up social media growth. Most social bookmarking sites will also allow companies and business leaders to see which topics are most popular, most recent or attached to a specific issue.

It’s also possible to search through bookmarks by searching for a specific word or phrase. This means that you find particular content, ideal for your brand and audience.
Social bookmarking sites allow social media managers to specifically target the information they want to see, curate and share. Instead of searching for a needle in a haystack on a search engine, you get a more refined and relevant source of inspiration.

How to benefit from social bookmarks

Social bookmarks sites make it easy to see what’s popular and trending in a specific industry. For instance, if your company is in the fashion space, you see what people are talking about in fashion and show your audience how up-to-date you are by publishing curated content.

Social bookmarks sites also make it easier to expand brand reach by earning backlinks through other relevant content and interacting with potential collaborators or influencers. Benefits include:

  • Ability to find relevant curated content that allows you to build authority on social pages and your blog.
  • Access to high domain authority backlinks for your website to boost your presence on the SERPs
  • Interactions with potential collaborators and influencers to grow your online success.

Remember, however, that social bookmarking sites frequently frown upon spam and direct advertising. To be part of a community, you’ll need to make a sincere effort to share information from relevant sources, not just your own website.

Social bookmarks sites invite people to visit often because they can create and share links to popular websites. Businesses can create business profiles and participate in this community. By sharing content, they create a welcoming presence for their company as well as drive traffic to their website. A robust social bookmark campaign can result in leading thousands of potential new customers to your website. Further, you can target this audience to generate interest among those interested in your niche. Here are some other ways social bookmarking benefits you.

Real people and active users are the ones who edit social bookmarks sites. The more popular your links become, the more users will share them, thus increasing traffic as well as popularity. As more people like and share, the more exposure you receive. All with no extra effort from your marketing team. The key is to set up your profile and bookmarking campaign well, and then enjoy the return. The goal here is to create a buzz rather than generate backlinks (although increased backlinks are one benefit). As mentioned already, you can target your demographic with the links you post on bookmarking sites.

If your SEO strategy doesn’t include social bookmarking, consult your marketing team. You may just bump your traffic and rankings by creating an online presence on Pinterest, Reddit, or other bookmarking sites.

Why are backlinks important ?

Backlinks are especially valuable for SEO because they represent a “vote of confidence” from one site to another.

In essence, backlinks to your website are a signal to search engines that others vouch for your content. If many sites link to the same webpage or website, search engines can infer that content is worth linking to, and therefore also worth surfacing on a SERP. So, earning these backlinks can have a positive effect on a site’s ranking position or search visibility.

Earning and giving backlinks

Earning backlinks is an essential component of off-site SEO. The process of obtaining these links is known as link earning or link building.

Some backlinks are inherently more valuable than others. Followed backlinks from trustworthy, popular, high-authority sites are considered the most desirable backlinks to earn, while backlinks from low-authority, potentially spammy sites are typically at the other end of the spectrum. Whether or not a link is followed (i.e. whether a site owner specifically instructs search engines to pass, or not pass, link equity) is certainly relevant, but don’t entirely discount the value of nofollow links. Even just being mentioned on high-quality websites can give your brand a boost.

Just as some backlinks you earn are more valuable than others, links you create to other sites also differ in value. When linking out to an external site, the choices you make regarding the page from which you link (its page authority, content, search engine accessibility, and so on) the anchor text you use, whether you choose to follow or nofollow the link, and any other meta tags associated with the linking page can have a heavy impact on the value you confer.

Competitive backlink research

Backlinks can be time-consuming to earn. New sites or those expanding their keyword footprint may find it difficult to know where to start when it comes to link building. That’s where competitive backlink research comes in: By examining the backlink profile (the collection of pages and domains linking to a website) to a competitor that’s already ranking well for your target keywords, you can gain insight about the link building that may have helped them. A backlink tool like Link Explorer can help uncover these links so you can and target those domains in your own link building campaigns.

Not all backlinks are created equal. Here are some of the many attributes that contribute to a backlink’s quality and utility.

Relevance

Google places more value on relevant backlinks because people are more likely to click on them. This is something they talk about in their “reasonable surfer” patent. What does this mean in real terms? If a plumber has backlinks from two pages, one about cats and one about installing boilers, chances are the latter is most valuable. This idea also plays out at the domain level.

Authority

Backlinks from strong web pages usually transfer more “authority” than those from weak ones. Page-level authority is something we’ve studied a few times, and we’ve found a clear relationship between it and organic traffic. Google’s original patent states that authority is split equally between all outbound links on a web page. So if you have backlinks from two pages and one has more outbound links than the other, then, all else being equal, the link from the page with fewer outbound links transfers more authority. Are things that simple these days? Probably not. Google has a fair number of patents describing various methods for assigning value to backlinks. Furthermore, internal backlinks also contribute to a page’s authority.

Traffic

Backlinks from high-traffic pages will usually send you more referral traffic than those from low-traffic pages. That’s obvious. The real question is whether backlinks from high-traffic pages positively affect rankings more than those from low-traffic pages? There’s a small but clear correlation between rankings and backlinks from pages with organic search traffic. However, the sheer number of backlinks from unique websites (referring domains) and page-level authority look to be more important.

Placement

Because people are more likely to click prominently-placed links, some links on web pages likely pass more authority than others.

Followed vs. nofollowed

Nofollowed backlinks don’t usually influence the linked page’s rankings—although they can. Because link building takes time and effort, it’s best to prioritize getting followed links. Just don’t kick up a fuss if you get a nofollowed link. It may still have some SEO value.

There are two ways to check a website or web page’s backlinks. The first method only works for sites that you own. Use the second to check backlinks to another website or web page.

Checking backlinks in Google Search Console

Google Search Console gives you data about your website’s organic search traffic and overall performance. It’s free to use—just sign up for a free account and verify ownership of your website.

Checking backlinks using a third-party backlink checker

To check backlinks to a website that you don’t own, use a tool like Ahrefs’ free backlink checker.

Earning backlinks

This is when people discover your content via search engines like Google, social media, or word of mouth, and choose to link to your page. In order words, earned backlinks are organic seo . You can improve your chances of earning more backlinks by creating truly useful content that people should want to link to.

Creating backlinks

This is when you manually add links to your site from other websites. Examples include submitting to business directories, leaving blog comments, and replying to forum threads. Backlinks are important when it comes to ranking in search engines like Google. That said, not all backlinks are created equal. Relevance, placement, and other attributes all contribute to a link’s quality and utility.

As a general rule of thumb, the easier it is to get a link, the less valuable it’ll be.

How SEO For Adult Business Works

TIPS FOR SEO FOR ADULT BUSINESS

1 – Keyword Analysis: Plan Your Online Business Wisely to Increase Its Chances of Success

Check out the competition. Before getting started, one should always do their homework. Similar to a business plan, you should first identify competitors in your adult vertical or niche. In fact, a thorough competitor analysis will unveil a treasure trove of crucial information, namely the most powerful keywords for which other businesses rank for, how webmasters optimize their sites, what type of content works best and other useful strategies.

Here’s 2 factors you absolutely need to take into account for each keyword:

  1. Volume: If your keyword has no traffic, it can be useless. On the flipside, if your keyword has a lot of volume, the competition rises. If you’re new, start at the bottom and work your way up. This means targeting low-volume keywords with less competition to slowly grow your domain authority (DA). Established sites with great organic traffic can tackle more competition to remain leaders in their respective niches.
  2. Competition: Unsurprisingly, evergreen or powerful keywords are extremely competitive. The more competition, the lower your odds of actually making a dent with your SEO for adult business strategy.

2 –  Website Structure: Build Your Website with SEO in Mind to Attract More Traffic

Having your website built according to the SEO for adult business guidelines underneath is capital. We can’t stress this enough: these steps are essential if you wish to grow a sustainable online business. Fist off: start by building the very foundations of your website. When choosing a domain name, you’ll want to keep it simple. This will help you generate type-in traffic. Also called direct traffic, type-in traffic is traffic that lands on your website by simply “typing-in” your URL (usually the case with short domain names, dictionary word domains, or memorable ones).   The more powerful & memorable your brand is, the more type-in you’ll get, and—consequently—the more it can improve your rankings in Google.

3 – Website Content: Attract Big Volumes of High Quality Traffic Thanks to the Relevancy of Your Content

If you planned your online presence correctly, you already know the keywords you’ll be focusing your efforts on. Once you have your main focus keyword(s) in your domain name (in an ideal situation), you should use your other target keywords in the URL of your pages or posts. Another good practice is to avoid using stop words in your page slug. However, the efficiency of this practice has become more and more debatable since it doesn’t seem to be as relevant as it once was for SEO for adult business purposes.

In SEO for adult business, the quantity of text provided on a page is paramount.

➝ You should have AT LEAST 750 words per page (ideally). This is almost a bare minimum since it’s commonly accepted that it should be at least 1500 words for mainstream websites. The reason is simple: written content is what search engine bots are looking at. The more relevant written content you have, the more likely you are to get a higher ranking.

4 – Optimize Your Backlink Strategy to Attract Both Direct and Organic Traffic

Without a doubt, backlinks are the absolute best things to attract both direct and organic traffic. They have become so important over the years that they are now considered as the backbone of any good SEO strategy. There’s actually a crucial SEO for adult business secret related to backlinks. Having backlinks shows search engines that your content is worth sharing and – consequently – has a direct effect on your ranking. That’s why backlinks are so important: in addition to bringing direct traffic that clicks on the links, they have a direct effect on organic traffic acquisition.

5 – Analyse Your SEO for adult business Value

Everybody will agree that it’s fairly easy to get lost in data… especially nowadays. Regarding your SEO value, there are mainly 3 things to analyze:

1- Your Organic Traffic volume
The analysis of your organic traffic should give you some valuable information about where to put your SEO efforts next, especially in regards to your website structure.

➝ Compare your organic traffic volume according to different devices to see the structural points to improve. As we’ve seen earlier in this guide you can have a different ranking on search engine on mobile and desktop. If your website is well structured and optimized for mobile, you should have at least the same volume of mobile and desktop traffic (usually even more mobile traffic). Therefore, if you have less mobile than desktop traffic, this should ring a bell!

If it’s the case, it means that you should probably put some efforts in either one or more of these things:

  • The mobile version of your website.
  • Your loading speed.
  • The implementation of your HTTPS protocol.
  • Your source code.

2 – Your Rank on Search Engines & the number of impressions. This is the backbone of SEO analysis.

➝ Analyse your existing keywords and your position on SERPs to either improve your ranking or detect new opportunities. Try answering these questions:

  • On which keywords are you ranking? On which pages?
  • How many impressions did you get last week? Last month? Last year?
  • What’s your click-through-rate (CTR) on these keywords?

3 – Your Backlinks
As we’ve seen earlier, it’s important to maintain some quality standards in regards to your backlinks.

➝ Watch the quality and the quantity of your backlinks like a hawk. Whether it’s regarding the anchor text, the tags or the source of the backlink, one thing you should always take a look at is the actual SEO juice transmitted. Moreover, you should ALWAYS be on the lookout for more backlinks.

Putting in routine SEO efforts should always be an ongoing process. And if you stick at it and don’t give up, your website can easily become your main source of revenue for many years to come. Start optimizing your adult website today and watch your organic traffic soar!
